Johns Hopkins Medicine launches national search for new Chief Diversity Officer

BALTIMORE — Johns Hopkins Medicine is in search of a new Chief Diversity Officer.

Dr. Sherita Golden is stepping down from the position, Hopkins confirmed Tuesday.

She will stay with Hopkins as a Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Back in January Golden got here beneath hearth for offensive language utilized in a web-based month-to-month information letter.

In that letter, Golden labeled Whites, Christians, males, heterosexuals, center class and English talking folks amongst these “privileged.”

This resulted in some calling for her firing, together with Maryland Congressman Andy Harris who described the publication as a “racist memo.”

Golden later apologized and retracted the feedback.

According to a letter despatched by Johns Hopkins Medicine CEO, Dr. Theodore DeWeese, it was Golden’s resolution to step down.

“She has been a beneficial member of the Johns Hopkins Medicine management group, and, like a lot of you, we needed her to remain in her position, however we respect her resolution,” DeWeese wrote to the Hopkins neighborhood. “This work takes braveness, and we’re profoundly grateful to Dr. Golden for her grace beneath strain, her poise within the face of adversity, and her dedication to the mission and work of ODIHE.”

Inez Stewart, chief human sources officer at Johns Hopkins Medicine, has been named interim Chief Diversity Officer.

A committee will likely be fashioned to conduct a national search to fill the place completely.
