Some Montgomery County Council members are telling County Executive Marc Elrich that they want extra data on how the search for the subsequent police chief goes.
There are job openings at the prime of two of Montgomery County’s public security companies: the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and the county Police Department are each wanting for new chiefs.
Now, on the heels of the withdrawal of his choose for hearth chief, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is getting a message from some council members that they want extra data on how the search for the subsequent police chief goes.
In a letter to Elrich, County Council President Andrew Friedson and the council’s Public Safety Committee Chair Sidney Katz wrote that “the course of for outreach and appointment must be open and clear” and that getting a sense of the timeframe in the search course of is required “to make sure a clean and steady change of management.”
In his weekly media briefing, Elrich mentioned he’s conscious that the leaders inside the police division and the police union “would favor an earlier choice with a longer transition and we’re hoping we will attain a choice that achieves that.”
When requested if he believes there are potential candidates for the chief’s job inside the division, Elrich mentioned, “I believe we’ve received some good potential candidates there.”
Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones introduced in January that he’d retire efficient July 1, 2024. Jones had been in regulation enforcement for almost 40 years.
Elrich is at present in the place of attempting to rent each a police chief and a hearth chief.
Elrich’s nominee for hearth chief, Charles Bailey, was withdrawn from consideration months after he was first recognized as a candidate for the job in November.
